Love - the greatest commandment
" 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?'
Jesus replied: ' 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' "

God is love....
Several years ago, I attended Benny Hinn's church conference/crusade in Baltimore. The main message seemed to be: Christianity is based on love and God is love. I remember a story he told the crowd on this topic. He said he was having a conversation with a Hindu guy who was arguing that his religion is better. They were going back and forth, asking questions and giving responses. The guy had appropriate responses for just about all of Benny Hinn's questions. Finally, Benny Hinn said to the guy, "I have one more question for you", and he said he waited for God to tell him what the question was. The question was : Is your religion based on love? The Hindu did not have an appropriate response for this question.

"Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough. Not only have I found that when I talk to the little flower or to the little peanut they will give up their secrets, but I have found that when I silently commune with people they give up their secrets also - if you love them enough."
- George Washington Carver

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

When love hurts, you need discipline to stay the course.....
Discipline by Meryl Gordon
I am old and I have had
more than my share of good and bad.
I've had love and sorrow, seen sudden death
and been left alone and of love bereft.
I thought I would never love again
and I thought my life was grief and pain.
The edge between life and death was thin,
but then I discovered discipline.
I learned to smile when I felt sad,
I learned to take the good and the bad,
I learned to care a great deal more
for the world about me than before.
I began to forget the "Me" and "I"
and joined in life as it rolled by:
this may not mean sheer ecstasy
but is better by far than "I" and "Me.

"Love is vulnerability. Happiness is vulnerability. The risk of being vulnerable is the price of opening yourself to beauty and opportunity. Being vulnerable is not about showing the parts of you that are polished; it's about revealing the unpolished parts you would rather keep hidden from the world. It's about looking out into the world with an honest, open heart and saying, 'This is me. Take me or leave me.'"

From the song 'Give a Little Love' by Ziggy Marley:
"We've got to
Give a little love, have a little hope,
Make this world a little better.
Try a little more, harder than before,
Let's see if we could do it together..."

INTERESTING FACT: One type of love is Philia love - the love that David and Johnathan in the Bible had for each other; the love that Christians are commanded to have for one another.

Do you love your friends this way? Or are you a competitive person who would try to take out the competition at all costs?
