If you have plans/dreams that are different from the dreams your parents have for you, your life may be filled with arguments, disagreements, and the like. The decision is yours to make, but you may have regrets.....
In the song 'The Living Years,' Mike & The Mechanics "talk" about such a struggle....
"My mother is an amazing woman. Not only did she manage the entire household, she noticed a gift in each of her kids and instilled confidence in all of us that that gift would take us wherever we wanted to go." - Barbara Corcoran
"I want to thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities." - Tina Fey
Movie 'It Takes Two': The parents seemed to have less courage than the kids. Was it because of maturity? https://youtu.be/6PKq7YSpO6c

#SongLesson:
From the song 'The Living Years' by MIKE & THE MECHANICS:
You say you just don't see it He says it's perfect sense You just can't get agreement In this present tense We all talk a different language Talking in defense
Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel Between the present and the past We only sacrifice the future It's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes You sometimes see as fate It may have a new perspective On a different date And if you don't give up, and don't give in You may just be O.K.
Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye
Do you expect individuals (adults, grown children/kids) to think, act and behave like their parents who raised them?
Would you expect parents to know more about their children because they raised them (because they have an insider view)?
In the movie 'Divergent', the children seemed very different from their parents.

"If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders." - Abigail Van Buren
"Your parents owe you nothing. They have already given you everything… Life itself. They did the best the knew how to at the time, given the resources they had. When you stop making them responsible for what you feel today, you access your power to really live." - Blog post by Kute Blackson, Stop Blaming Your Parents. Give It Up. Stop. Adults are free to choose their own path and should make responsible choices. Should parents be blamed for the choices of their children when they become adults?
