Love - the greatest commandment
" 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?'
Jesus replied: ' 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' "
- Holy Bible (NIV), Matthew 22:36-40

"The person who has earned love the least needs it the most."
- F. Enzio Busche

"Children need love, especially when they don't deserve it."
- Anonymous
God extends love even to people who don't deserve it. John 3:16 of the Holy Bible (NIV) states: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Type of love: Agape
"Agape is love which is of and from God, whose very nature is love itself."
- GotQuestions.org, http://www.gotquestions.org/agape-love.html

God is love....

Several years ago, I attended Benny Hinn's church conference/crusade in Baltimore. The main message seemed to be: Christianity is based on love and God is love. I remember a story he told the crowd on this topic. He said he was having a conversation with a Hindu guy who was arguing that his religion is better. They were going back and forth, asking questions and giving responses. The guy had appropriate responses for just about all of Benny Hinn's questions. Finally, Benny Hinn said to the guy, "I have one more question for you", and he said he waited for God to tell him what the question was. The question was : Is your religion based on love? The Hindu did not have an appropriate response for this question.
From the song 'Heal The World' by Michael Jackson:

Heal the world,
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race....
Heal the world we live in,
Save it for our children.

- Gary Zukay
"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love."
- Sophocles

"And remember, as it was written, to love another person is to see the face of God."

Yes, people love for selfish reasons. Reminds me of the movie ' The Wolf of Wall Street'.

- Lenore Coffee
"Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough. Not only have I found that when I talk to the little flower or to the little peanut they will give up their secrets, but I have found that when I silently commune with people they give up their secrets also - if you love them enough."
- George Washington Carver

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
- Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
"Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
From the song 'As Long As You Love Me' by Backstreet Boys:

I don't care who you are,
Where you're from,
What you did,
As long as you love me.

"Love is acceptance. When you love someone ... you take them into your heart, and that is surely why it hurts so much when we lose someone we love, because we lose a part of ourselves."
- Unknown
Love is tolerant....

"There's no substitute for a great love who says, 'No matter what's wrong with you, you're welcome at this table.'"
- Tom Hanks

- M. Scott Peck
"To find someone who will love you for no reason, and to shower that person with reasons, that is the ultimate happiness."
- Robert Brault
Love brings about happiness and joy. Love is patient, kind, tolerant and transforms enemies into friends. Love can bring about peace.

The enemy could use love against you....much like the kidnapping in the movie ' Ransom'.
You need to remain calm and "keep a level head".

The love of your life could lead you to make sacrifices and to put your life on hold.
"It's not about the money..."

Love of money could lead someone down the wrong path. Discipline is needed.
As statrd in the Holy Bible, the love of money is the root or all evil.
From the song 'I Don't Want To' by Toni Braxton:

I don't want to sing another love song...
I don't want to live my life without you, baby,
It's driving me crazy.

When love hurts, you need discipline to stay the course.....

Discipline by Meryl Gordon

I am old and I have had
more than my share of good and bad.

I've had love and sorrow, seen sudden death
and been left alone and of love bereft.

I thought I would never love again
and I thought my life was grief and pain.

The edge between life and death was thin,
but then I discovered discipline.

I learned to smile when I felt sad,
I learned to take the good and the bad,
I learned to care a great deal more
for the world about me than before.

I began to forget the "Me" and "I"
and joined in life as it rolled by:
this may not mean sheer ecstasy
but is better by far than "I" and "Me.
"I understand now that the vulnerability I’ve always felt is the greatest strength a person can have. You can’t experience life without feeling life. What I’ve learned is that being vulnerable to somebody you love is not a weakness, it’s a strength."
- Elisabeth Shue
Love makes you vulnerable indeed. It is sunny and bright but could land you in hot water.

From the song 'When A Man Loves A Woman' by Michael Bolton:

When a man loves a woman,
Can't keep his mind on nothing else,
He'd trade the world
For the good thing he has found....
When a man loves a woman,
Deep down in his soul,
She can bring himsuch misery.

"Love is vulnerability. Happiness is vulnerability. The risk of being vulnerable is the price of opening yourself to beauty and opportunity. Being vulnerable is not about showing the parts of you that are polished; it's about revealing the unpolished parts you would rather keep hidden from the world. It's about looking out into the world with an honest, open heart and saying, 'This is me. Take me or leave me.'"

"He has achieved success who has lived well and loved much...."
- Bessie Stanley
Love puts us in a vulnerable position, but love is happiness....

"There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved."
- George Sand
"We get most upset with those we love because they are close to us and we know that they are aware of our weaknesses... If only we could learn to live with our inadequacies, our frailties, our vulnerabilities, we would not need to try so hard to push away those who really know us."
- Desmond Tutu

"All my life I have been haunted by the obsession that to desire a thing or to love a thing intensely is to place yourself in a vulnerable position, to be a possible, if not a probable, loser of what you most want. Let's leave it ike that."
- Tennessee Williams
"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken...."
- C. S. Lewis

From the song 'Give a Little Love' by Ziggy Marley:

Make this world a little better.

Let's see if we could do it together..."

INTERESTING FACT: One type of love is Philia love - the love that David and Johnathan in the Bible had for each other; the love that Christians are commanded to have for one another.
